Acklins Island, Bahamas

I recently traveled to Acklins Island in the Bahamas with my buddies Eric and Scott to visit a friends new fishing lodge. Acklins has only 400 residents and the village we stayed in only around 100. The island seems like it is at the end of the world despite being littered with ship wrecks and crashed drug planes. The locals are so laid back that literally almost nothing ever gets done. Except on "Homecoming" week, which we were lucky enough to see. Homecoming is a 3 day barbecue/bender where anyone who has moved away from the village comes home for a big ol' throw down. A couple of days before the scheduled date everyone repainted the local shops and common area, found their one nice set of clothes, opened restaurants and washed their cars. The kids put on a Junkanoo parade that ended in the common area dancing and playing music for 45 min. non stop. Hard to beat.
